The root element is missing can be an issue with the MdbToXML.exe file or the ClientTierSettings.XML file.
First set the compatibility mode for your current MdbToXML.exe file by:
To set the compatibility level for an executable:
- Go to the business tier directory (Default location: C:\Program Files\CAREWare\RW CAREWare Business Tier)
- Locate and right click on the MdbToXml.exe file
- Select Properties
- Click on the Compatibility tab
- Check the check box for 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
- Select Windows XP from the pull down menu (XP SP3 if available)
- Click Apply then click OK
- Rerun the PDE (and don't check the Save as xml file check box)
If you still get the error message, You can get the latest version of the MdbToXML
here. Change the file type to .exe. Place that file in your business tier folder. Choose "Move and Replace" when prompted. Then follow the steps above to set compatibility and restart the business tier.
If this error is still occurring then the ClientTierSettings.XML file in the client tier directory may have become corrupted. You can resolve it by completing the following steps:
- Go to the client tier directory (Default location: C:\Program Files\CAREWare\RW CAREWare Client Tier)
- Locate and highlight the ClientTierSettings.XML file
- Delete the ClientTierSettings.XML file
- Open and log in to CAREWare as normal
After completing the above steps you will need to re-add your server IP address or hostname to the server list if you connect to a remote PC or server. To do this please follow these steps:
- Open CAREWare
- Click on 'Options'
- Click on 'Server List'
- Click on 'Add'
- Add the server hostname or IP address and click 'Save'
- Click on 'Close'
- Using the Server List pulldown menu, choose the newly added server
- Login to CAREWare using your user name and password
