With the addition of the bar code feature to CAREWare, clinics will be able to scan client reports and automatically pull up clients within CAREWare. The bar codes will be located at the bottom of each unique client report. The ability to print a page of bar code labels has also been added so you can affix bar codes to existing clinic forms. After scanning a bar code the client will be displayed automatically.
The bar code scanner within CAREWare uses 2D barcodes formatted to the PDF417 standard. This standard was chosen due to market availability and the format's ability to handle larger character limits which is necessary for the encrypted GUIDs used in RW CAREWare. Input is automatically captured through a keyboard wedge from most places in CAREWare. A nice 2D scanner can be purchased for less then $400 US dollars.
