The silent or quiet installation of the CAREWare Business and Client Tiers should only be used by individuals familiar with the MSIEXEC.EXE program and DOS command prompt. This wiki answer is for advanced PC users only. The CAREWare Help Desk is only able to provide the information below AS IS and will not be able to assist in the creation of customized queries or additional installation methods using this method.

There is no other documentation available for the silent installation of CAREWare.

The steps necessary to install the client tier in quiet mode using the DOS prompt are provided below. This method can also be used to install the business tier by changing the MSI file name, but will not work with the data tier installation since that tier installs a SQL Server instance.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. In the Search field type 'CMD' (no quotes).
  3. Press OK
  4. In the command prompt windows type the following*:
    C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe /I "C:\Users\Adam\Downloads\rwcarewareclienttiersetup.msi" /QN /LV "C:\Users\Adam\Downloads\CWHelp.log" ALLUSERS=1
  5. Once the installation is complete you will need to add the server IP address or hostname to the server list **

  • You will want to change the paths specified for the client tier setup file and log file creation. This are user defined paths.

  • The server list information is contained in the Client Tier directory (Default path: C:\Program Files\CAREWare\RW CAREWare Client Tier) in an XML named ClientTierSettings.XML. Depending upon how you are creating the packaging for CAREWare you could copy the ClientTierSettings.XML file from a working machine to your package folder and have it placed automatically into the new client tier directory after installation is complete.

NOTE:If you are rolling out several new PCs or installing CAREWare on several networked PCs that will be connecting to central server, then you will only need to install the client tier on those remote PCs. The business and data tiers should be installed on the central server only.

The help desk will not be able to provide any additional help regarding the re-packaging of the CAREWare setup files or how to automatically move the clientTierSettings.XML file to another machine. We can provide additional assistance with CAREWare installation issues that you may encounter during normal installation methods as described in the Quick Start Guides.
