Many CAREWare users are moving towards the newer Microsoft operating systems and have encountered some difficulty installing the CAREWare business and client tiers due to the User Access Control (UAC) feature. This new feature is turned on by default in Windows 7, Vista, and Server 2008. Users can
turn off UAC, but the CAREWare Help Desk does not suggest doing so because it is a security feature for these operating systems.
The CAREWare Help Desk has developed several methods for completing the installation of either business or client tier on machines that use these OS's. This wiki answer will provide the most comprehensive method available to complete the installation with minimum trouble.
Before being able to install either tier of CAREWare users must
install the prerequisites. These prerequisites are normally installed by default during normal Windows installation. For a complete of compatible operating systems and SQL Server version please refer to the
CAREWare compatibility list.Once the prerequisits have been verified and installed a user will need to download the necessary tier(s) for their installation of CAREWare. If a client tier is needed only, then the user can contact the CAREWare Help Desk with the specific CAREWare build number in use at the user's location. If a business tier upgrade is required, then a user can download the latest release build from the
HRSA CAREWare website.
