Before completing the upgrade to SQL Server 2008 you should complete a backup of the database. This can be done within
CAREWare or SQL Server.
You may want to run the SQL 2008 Upgrade Advisor before completing the actual upgrade. It can be downloaded from
here.
You can download the SQL Server 2008 Express Edition from
here.
You may also want to download and the Management Studio Express for SQL Server 2008. It can be download from
here.
If you do not have .NET 3.5 SP1 already installed, then you will need to install it. It can be downloaded from
here.
You will need to have
Windows PowerShell 1.0 installed for SQL Server 2008 Management Studios.
After installing
.NET framework 4.5 and downloading the SQL Server 2008 Express edition complete the following.
- Run the SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe.
- Accept the license agreement by checking the accept box. Click Next.
- After the successful installation of the Setup Support files, click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Provide your name and/or company name. Click Next.
- Verify that the installation path is where you would like it. Click Next.
- Check the radio button for Named Instance. Then click on Installed Instances.
- Choose your CAREWare database instance from the available list and click OK.
- Click Next.
- Check the check box for SQL Server Database Services 10.00.
- Click Next
- Check the SQL Server Authentication Mode radio button
- Enter SA for the user name and then provide your SA password
- Click Next.
- Allow the installation to complete.
- Click Finished.
